What would they be? I know it's a what if situation for most here. But if circumstances in space, money, etc prohibited getting more than 5. If fire engulfed your collection and the ins company didn't pay up, whatever. If you couldn't get the series in floppie form. If there were no other alternatives available for their purchase. Please don't use I already have House of mystery run in comic form, or justifications. By continuing/finite I mean you could only buy 5 series ( All-Star, JLA, Bat, Swamp Thing, etc ). Done in 50, done in 1 makes no difference. Any era, any genre, any character. Also published now or yet to be published. Remember your copies of all your floppies are gone and you can't buy them back your archive shelf is empty. And try to stay away from More Fun Archives and be more realistic like how they are done now and mostly character centered rather than title centered. If you say Batman it should be 1 slot a piece for GA, SA, BA, modern..you don't have to say Differentiate between detective and Batman, Action and Supes, or CM Adventures and Whiz, etc. If it's JLA or Legion you don't need to specify the period. The same is true for characters that don't have that much material like Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, or Adam Strange. I'll tabulate the response if enough people respond. Prepare to be driven crazy.

One question more on this hypothetical: How "extreme" or "fanciful" can we get with Archives that haven't come out yet? For instance, must it be only DC property right now? Or can it be Archives from any comic line? The answer to that would alter my response. Since I don't know for sure, I'll do it two ways. DC PROPERTY ONLY ARCHIVES ANY LINE ARCHIVES Gary "very tough to choose... I'd give a different list every 10 minutes" O. IP: Logged |

1. SA Superman 2. SA Superboy 3. Plastic Man 4. GA Batman in Detective 5. GA Shazam As much as I like some of the short-run Archives (and as much as I'm looking forward to my on-order GA Spectre) I couldn't justify choosing any one-or-two volume series over something that could run for many (possibly dozens) more volumes. My first runner-up would be SA Flash. Cole IP: Logged |

GA Shazam (the best and most entertaining superhero of the golden age) GA Dark Knight Archives (The Batman Archives have already printed the best old Detective stories, while Dark Knight has only reprinted the first 12 issues of Batman so far; I'd like to see the Batman issues reprinted roughly to the point that the Detective issues were) Tarzan Archives (Since this is a fantasy choice, I would want this reprinting ALL Tarzan comics from ALL publishers through the end of Kubert's DC run) GA Captain Marvel Jr. Archives GA Mary Marvel Archives --Mark IP: Logged |

Since I'm making you choose GA, Sa, Ba, etc.. you don't need to specify Detective or Batman unless you want as that material is finite..same is true for Action and Supes. We'll just say its a single line that collects Batman stories in continuity of the age era. IP: Logged |

1. SEA DEVILS (Russ Heath issues only). 2. VIKING PRINCE 3. HAWKMAN (Kubert issues) 4. ADAM STRANGE 5. SPIDER-MAN (I know this is a ridiculous choice, but I would really love to see the Ditko issues given the Archive treatment, as opposed to the slipshod reprodction job Marvel has done on the Masterworks series. It's really a shame that one of the greatest and most influential comics of all time has never been correctly reproduced). Glenn IP: Logged |

1.) SA Suuuuuuperman!!!!! Every single issue from about 1955 to 1971 or so. Maybe more maybe less. And Lois and Jimmy in the same Archive, so that makes about 173 volumes in all. Whew! 2.) The Legion of Super-Heroes! 3.) Shazam! 4.) The Teen Titans in all its various incarnations and sequels 5.) The Doom Patrol Lots of votes for Detective Chimp! Even votes for that cheap imitation of ME...Rex the Blunder Dog! Why the heck didn't DC give me my own dang comic back in the 50s??? Do you all realize how much they'd be WORTH in this day and age??? Done in 1 versus Done in 50 would make a big deal in the real world since in theory if I had $250 budgeted per year, I could pick up Black Canary this year and have an open slot next year. IP: Logged |

Captain Marvel Adventures. 150 issues, with large amounts of art by Beck and Costanza. Donald Duck. An impressive run (300 issues?) with a lot of classic Barks material. Silver Age Superman. Starting at the end of the 1950s, extending until somewhere in the early eighties. Tons of great Swan artwork, and the adventures of the most popular superhero of all time. Thor, including Journey into Mystery's Thor portions. Started off with great material by Kirby, a wonderful run by Simonson in the eighties, and the current creative team seems to have the title on track again. Strange Adventures. Just to put a little variety in my comics diet. IP: Logged |

The choices are difficult enough to make with existing series, so I'm not going to bother with those that I'd merely like to see published some day. Five favorites, in this order: 1. All-Star Comics IP: Logged |
